Lesson sheet · Module 16
Where to reinvest — real value
The aim of the lesson
Every purchase is a choice between this and everything else you could do with the same money and the same time. Invest first in what brings life — skills, health, time, people — then in things.
- 👧 Child: what will I get, what am I giving up, how long will it make me happy?
- 🧑 Teenager: name the alternative before you pay.
- 🧔 Adult: once a year, put your spending and your time on the map of real value. Where do they go? Is that where you want them?
Your step in Pecuvo: baskets "Learning and growth", "People and time together", "Giving"; goals with the opportunity cost in front of your eyes; the home with the label "home (consumption)".
The topic (chapters of the module)
- Chapter 1 · Missed opportunities
- Chapter 2 · In yourself versus in things
- Chapter 3 · Experiences versus things
- Chapter 4 · Experiences versus property
- Chapter 5 · Buying time
- Chapter 6 · Relationships versus assets
- Chapter 7 · The balance: the map of real value
For the youngest · ages 6–7
🐣 The youngest: With one coin you can buy only one thing. If you choose an ice cream, it is gone for the little book. Some things grow with time — like a seed you plant. Knowing how to ride a bike stays with you for ever. Happy days with the people you love grow when you tell about them.
Play together (5 minutes): Plant a bean in a cup with wet cotton wool. Look at it together every day and draw how much it has grown. Talk about what else grows with time — skills, friendships, memories.
A question for the evening: "What did you learn this year that still helps you?"
A game from the catalogue: OB-03 "A book swap market" — https://pecuvo.eu/igri/katalog/#ob-03 (in Bulgarian)
Questions for the class — 3 per level
- 👧 1. What is a missed opportunity? 2. Why is learning a present for your future self? 3. What three questions do you ask before you spend?
- 🧑 1. What does research show about experiences and things — and what is the caveat? 2. Why can "buying time" be a good purchase? 3. What is the most consistent finding of the Harvard study?
- 🧔 1. Why is the home you live in mainly consumption? 2. What are the risks of reinvesting in yourself? 3. How do you order your reinvestment — and why is the order personal?
